You dont have to use them. The same way you don't have to use Implants and Booster Pills.
...on the other hand using a banana might be a viable alternative.

No, you really don't. Same way you don't have to use Best Named gear if you only want a cheap throwaway ship.
There is a way around it.....don't fit them to your ship.  I doubt they'll be cheap anyway, given that you need to salvage wrecks to obtain the components needed to build them.....I'm certainly not going to be running about getting my salvaging gear running in a hostile system, I'd rather just pop the wreck tbh, to ensure no-one else gets it.
...on the other hand using a banana might be a viable alternative.

It doesn't make any sense that you harvest wrecks to get rig components... Wrecks are destroyed ships. So what can you POSSIBLY get from a destroyed ship that you couldn't just manufacture yourself?
